Want to know more? Let’s take a look at some of the most common questions parents ask regarding children’s dentistry:

WHAT WILL MY CHILD’S VISIT BE LIKE?

At Third Street Dental, our goal is to make visits as fun and relaxed as possible. This will build positive memories about visiting the dentist and let your child become accustomed to being relaxed in the dental environment. This includes treats like cartoons and other prizes, as well as a dental goodie bag, filled with an age-appropriate toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, balloons, and more! Older children will be comfortably accommodated in the dental chair, while very young children are free to stay in their parent’s arms. Once your child is settled, we’ll check their general oral health, count their teeth, do a light cleaning, and give you tips and tricks to help keep your child’s smile sparkling.

WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD START SEEING THE DENTIST?

Along with the Canadian Dental Association, we recommend that your child’s first visit take place within six months of getting their first tooth, or at one year of age, whichever comes first. Even if your child does not yet have any teeth, it’s always a good idea to start with great hygiene habits and build positive feeling about the dental office. The team at Third Street Dental will lay the foundation for years of fantastic dental health.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY CHILD SEE THE DENTIST?

For optimal oral health, checkups should be scheduled every six to nine months. That may sound like a lot, but frequent checkups will allow us to closely monitor your child’s developing teeth, and give us the ability to identify and correct any issues before they become a serious problem.

MY CHILD HAS A CAVITY IN A BABY TOOTH. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If your child has a cavity, you should make an appointment with us, your North Vancouver dentist, as soon as possible to have it filled. Even though it’s just a “baby” or primary tooth, teeth with cavities can become infected, which has the potential to cause nerve damage or other complications. Furthermore, cavities are caused by bacteria and the cavity will spread rapidly to other teeth if not filled soon. In addition, filling the tooth allows for the preservation of space in the gum, which helps ensure the natural development and alignment of adult teeth.

If you’re searching for a North Vancouver dentist that specializes in providing exceptional children’s dentistry services, make Dr. Andrew Ho and the team at Third Street Dental your first choice! Give us a call to schedule an appointment today.
