1. Low Radiation Exposure:First and foremost, digital radiography reduces a patient’s exposure to radiation, typically by 60 to 70 percent. While the amount of radiation when receiving a traditional dental x-ray is low, exposure from digital x-rays is even lower. Exposure is further minimized because the technology is precise and instant therefore there are fewer re-takes and thus less x-rays needed.
2. Quick Processing:Digital x-rays do not need to be chemically processed. Just as the consumer and camera industry have switched to digital so has the dental community. Digital technology eliminates the inconvenience of dark room processing and lessens the environmental impact associated with the disposal of conventional film developers. Waste production is reduced, as is the consumption of film and paper.
3. Better Images:The technology lets us easily enlarge, enhance and refine images to detect dental issues and address them earlier before they become a bigger problem. Brightness, color, and contrast can be adjusted without re-exposing a patient to another film.
4. Improved Dental Understanding:Digital x-rays will help you have a better understanding of your oral health. X-ray images can be clearly displayed on a large screen therefore it will be much easier for you to understand and see what is going on in your mouth. As a bonus, we can print or email the images so that you can take them home.
